The process
What happens
When decay or a small break is caught early, a filling restores the tooth’s shape and strength. We use tooth-coloured composite, so the repair blends in with the rest of your smile.
- 01
Numbing
A local anaesthetic numbs the tooth so you stay comfortable.
- 02
Cleaning out
The decayed or damaged part of the tooth is gently removed.
- 03
Building up
Composite is applied in layers, shaped, and hardened with a blue light.
- 04
Checking your bite
We polish the filling and make sure your teeth meet comfortably.
Questions
Common Questions
Do my old silver fillings need replacing?
Not necessarily. If an old filling is intact, it can usually stay. We recommend replacing one only if it’s cracked, leaking or has decay underneath.
Will people be able to see the filling?
Composite is matched to the shade of your tooth, so most fillings are hard to spot.
