The process
What happens
A crown is a custom-made cap that covers a tooth that is cracked, heavily filled or root-treated. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring a false tooth to the teeth on either side of the gap.
- 01
Preparation
The tooth is numbed and gently shaped, and impressions or a scan are taken.
- 02
Temporary
You wear a temporary crown or bridge while yours is being made.
- 03
Fitting
We check the fit, colour and bite, then fix the crown or bridge in place.
Questions
Common Questions
What are crowns made of?
Options include zirconia, porcelain and porcelain fused to metal. We’ll recommend a material based on where the tooth is, how you bite and how you want it to look.
Should I choose a bridge or an implant?
A bridge is quicker and doesn’t need surgery, but it relies on shaping the neighbouring teeth. An implant leaves those teeth untouched but takes longer. We’ll go through both for your situation.
| Treatment | Typical time |
|---|---|
| Dental implants | 3–6 months |
| Root canal treatment | 1–2 visits |
| Veneers and smile makeovers | 1–3 visits |
