Check-ups and cleaning
A thorough check of your teeth and gums, a professional clean, and advice that fits your mouth.
Typical time: 30–45 min
The process
What happens
Most dental problems start small and painless. A regular check-up finds them early, when treatment is simpler, and a professional clean removes the hardened plaque (tartar) that brushing can’t shift.
- 01
A conversation first
We ask about your health, any medicines you take and anything that’s bothering you.
- 02
Examination
The dentist checks every tooth, your gums, your bite and the soft tissues of your mouth, and takes X-rays if they’re needed.
- 03
Scaling and polishing
Tartar and surface stains are removed with gentle instruments, then your teeth are polished.
- 04
Your plan
You leave knowing what’s healthy, what needs watching and what, if anything, needs treatment.
Questions
Common Questions
Does scaling damage the enamel?
No. Scaling removes tartar that sits on the tooth; it doesn’t remove enamel. Teeth can feel smoother and slightly sensitive afterwards, which usually settles within a day or two.
My gums bleed when I brush. Should I avoid brushing there?
No. Bleeding is usually a sign of gum inflammation caused by plaque. Keep brushing gently and book a check-up so we can find the cause.
